A DEXA-scan, (bone density test) is a quick, painless way to check your bone health.
Who should be worried about developing osteoporosis?
If you are a woman approaching menopause, you might be worried about your risk for osteoporosis. Osteoporosis causes bones to become weaker and more fragile, leading to broken bones. There are many risk factors for osteoporosis, such as early menopause, absent periods for more than 6 months, genetic predisposition, certain medications, and many more. Women are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis because the hormone changes that accompany menopause directly affect bone density.
Men taking corticosteroids or drink alcohol frequently, are also at risk of developing osteoporosis.
A DEXA-scan, (bone density test) is a quick, painless way to check your bone health. We are now able to offer, in co-operation with the Radiology department of the HMC, our clients at risk, a DEXA-scan.
